- If you notice a rise in blood sugar during and/or after you exercise this is important for us. This could mean your metabolism is responding in a healthy way, burning stored sources of fuel for energy, thus resulting in a slight increase in blood sugar. However, if your blood sugar significantly increases, this could be a sign of something different like the “morning dawn” effect or the somogyi effect. Check your blood glucose levels before bed and around 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. (sorry, we know!) and let your Healthcare provider know if your blood sugar levels are high or low during those times for guidance.
- If your blood sugar plummets, this is a sign that you has a lot of insulin floating around in your body. When you performed exercise, your cells became a lot more sensitive to the insulin which quickly worked and opened up cells to put glucose in, thus quickly removing it from the blood.
