- If you find your blood sugar to be high in the morning without exercise, take a look at your dinner choices, night-time snacks or medication regimen and talk to your health care provider. There is a chance you might also be experiencing either the “morning dawn” phenomenon or the "Somogyi effect" both of which result in elevated morning blood sugars and are often exacerbated by exercise. It is best to find a different time to exercise until you are able to speak with your Healthcare provider for guidance. Add a blood sugar check at 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. a few days in a row and let your provider know what your readings are in order for them to see the full picture.
